DES MOINES - The College and Young Democrats of Iowa (CYDI) released the following statement today:

"Now more than ever, Iowans need access to safe, legal abortion.

Abortion is time-sensitive, essential healthcare. Governor Reynolds' decision to ban procedural abortions is cruel and disgraceful.

Iowans are facing more barriers than ever to abortion access, and Governor Reynolds' actions add yet another hoop to jump through to exercise a right protected by the Constitution.

Governor Reynolds cannot claim to "protect the well-being of all Iowans" - as she said in her press conference today - while denying necessary health care access to half of our state's population. This is not the leadership that Iowans deserve."
